Sustainable Municipal Buildings: Funding and Strategies for Energy-Efficient Facilities

Open to Local Electeds in the Prairies

Explore how municipalities can reduce costs, create local jobs, enhance building comfort and advance climate goals by upgrading existing buildings or constructing new, energy-efficient facilities.

Municipal buildings like fire stations, community centres, and libraries are critical to community services, and improving their energy performance can enhance comfort, safety, and long-term resilience.

The Green Municipal Fund’s Outreach Advisor will highlight the Sustainable Municipal Buildings (SMB) program, offering funding for retrofits and new construction of municipally owned buildings. We will explore opportunities, benefits, and local examples, providing practical insights for municipalities.

This Chapter is facilitated by Councillor Shanon Zachidniak and is open to current and former local elected leaders who are members of Climate Caucus.
