Integrating Climate Considerations into Council Decision-Making Processes

Open to local electeds in the Prairies

Discover how Prairie councils are embedding climate action into everyday decision-making, even amid budget constraints and shifting political priorities.

Hear directly from Prairie leaders, including Mayor Andrew Knack and Councillor Keren Tang of Edmonton, Corrie DiManno of Banff, and former Calgary Councillor Druh Farrell, as they share how climate considerations are being integrated into council processes, such as environmental or climate impact reviews in council reports and carbon budgeting. We will highlight and share practical examples, lessons learned, and insights into assessing what climate-forward governance can realistically look like when resources are tight and climate ambition is under pressure.

This Chapter is facilitated by Councillor Shanon Zachidniak and is open to current and former local elected leaders who are members of Climate Caucus.
